At our reunion last year, Howard
Dempsey Davis brought two
boxes of old pictures that had
belonged to Vinnie Davis
O'Brien.  Most of the pictures
had no names on the back but
some of our cousins knew
people or made a good guess.  I
I thought that you would enjoy
some of them.
--------------------------
The top left photo, I'm pretty
sure, has Cappietolla Napier
Davis in the center surrounded
by family.  To her right, I think the
woman is her daughter, Hattie.

What do you think about the top
two pictures on the right?  Is it
Allen Andrew Davis?

(Wow...This was a real gem!  Must have been a Thanksgiving Play)
Lynda is the daughter of Noah and
Hester Davis.  She was named
Cappietolla Lynda Davis after her
Grandmother, Cappietolla.  She
married Earl Whittington.  Earl sold
appliances in MS and AL for a while
but moved to TX where he worked in
the insurance business.  He formed
Associated Brokers in the late 70s...

(Below)  Noel Battiste, Jr., the son of Noel, Sr. and Frankie
Davis Battiste.  (Left)  Allen Cothran.
 He drown at Orange
Grove Lake.  Allen had been a Merchant Marine  and was in
his early 20s when he died in 1944.  His death was under
suspicious circumstances.  According to family, Vinnie was
devastated by the death of her son.  Allen was from her first
marriage to Charles Alvin Cawthon.  Charles died at 25 years
old.  She, Vinnie, married Edward Garrison O'Brien.
Remember the television show...SUPERMAN?
Does Earl look like the star of that show?
Clifford and Lannis are still involved in the life insurance
business.  They still live in TX.  Patsy lives in MS.

The Covington County MS Genealogical and Historical
Society is doing a super job!  They have publications and
lots of projects.  Memberships are available.  One of their
on-going efforts is work at the Old Williamsburg Cemetery.
Loughton Davis is buried there with several other family
members.  The April 2009 meeting is being held at the
Hopewell Presbyterian Church founded in 1830.  It started in
a log school house owned by D. W. McGinnis located on his
place about 5 miles South of the present church building.
While Jaynesville was at one time a part of Covington
County, it is now in Northeastern Jefferson Davis County.
The present sanctuary was begun in 1856 and completed in
1857.  The structure is made of heart pine that is dressed,
tongued and grooved by hand.  Post are mortised into sills
and plates and wood pegs are used instead of nails.
Walking into this sanctuary is like being transported back in
time.
